Regardless of your field of activity or business, at least once we all came across the following problem: the inability to sell. No matter what we do, we simply cannot finalize the sale. The market if overflowed with design related products from fonts, vectors, icons, to editing tools and apps.

There are products/services that sell by themselves, but there are also services that are harder to sell (or almost impossible – at least so it seems to us when first attempting to sell). However, there are also some GENERAL VALID techniques to influence potential buyers.

Today we thought we’d introduce you to three such techniques – we can call them Persuasion practical methods for improving the sales rate.

3 PERSONAL PROTECTION TECHNIQUES (AND HOW WE CAN APPLY THEM) TO INCREASE SALES RATE

  1. The Contrast Technique – When a customer says NO, it’s actually means MAYBE for something cheaper!

When you offer a product but the potential client visits the product’s page and leaves without buying anything, try to retarget him/her through a remarketing campaign. You can do that by offering a discount or a similar product at a lower price. The technique works best when performed in a real-time re-test.

Sales Rate

For example, when the potential client adds the final products to the cart, continues to the finalization of the order, but ends up not buying anything. Then there should be a push-up message to offer him/her a reduction. Or, if you see that the visitor spends more than one minute on the cart page and does not finish, you can ask him through programs like Zopim Chat if he needs help completing the order.

  1. Show customers that their friends have already bought from you

This is based on the technique of mimicry – an extremely powerful persuasion technique. This method relies on the fact that if a user sees that his/her friend has trusted a product, he/she will mimic their behavior, increasing your chance to sell them the same product.

Technically, this way of influencing is more difficult to implement, as you need, like Amazon, a system that allows you to log in and purchase products via Facebook.

Sales Rate

So when potential clients log in on your site to complete an order via Facebook, they will be remembered in the system database and their Facebook friends will see them interacting with your site.

It’s the same system that tells you how many of your friends liked one page, visited the page, or liked an article.

  1. The “push” technique – with limited offers

This is one of the most common methods of improving sales rate. For this very reason, however, efficiency is being lost; too many people use it frequently. But this should not stop you from using it. With a drop of originality, you can easily stand out in the crowd.

Simply showing a reduced price of a product with the previous price right next to it, won’t bring you too many customers. How about using an animated slider on the discount page representing a stopwatch? You can display how many days/hours/minutes are left until the end of the promotion.

Sales Rate

You are probably familiar with this technique as many stores use it, especially on Black Fridays. Such campaigns will result in clients “pushed” to buy a product right NOW, because tomorrow they may not have the chance anymore. Make this technique even more efficient by showing how many items of the wanted product are left.

Conclusion

We guarantee that any of the techniques above work and will bring you more customers. Make sure your offers look appealing and urgent. Do offer once in a while the best prices on the market. This will ensure you an unforgettable name, and your customers will be the happiest.

Behind every successful ecommerce website is an ecommerce platform that makes it possible for the business to manage content, promotions, profiles, shopping carts, orders, inventory and fulfillment.

There are many on the market today to choose from, so it can be difficult to know which one is right for you. And when you consider that what works well for one business may not work well for the next, it only makes the decision that much harder.

If you’re trying to decide which ecommerce platform to use or preparing to switch to another that better fits your needs, use this to help guide the decision-making process.

What Kind of Products Are You Selling?

There’s a big difference between selling digital products and physical ones, and there’s a big difference between selling to end consumers and selling on a wholesale or enterprise supply basis.

e-commerce platform

If you’re selling digital products, you need a system that will make it easy to automate product delivery emails and give you the option to limit the number of times the media you’re offering to buyers can be accessed or downloaded.

If you’re selling physical products, there’s shipping to consider. Does the system make it easy to choose between shipping providers, so you can get the best deal on shipping parcels to buyers without having to pass on a huge shipping expense? Is it easy enough to store information about the size and weight of your inventory, so you can print shipping labels with ease? Does the platform have the capability to surface different content experiences and pricing structures to bulk buyers?

Are You Hosting the Store Yourself?

You have the option to choose between a self-hosted platform – where you source your own server from a hosting company and install the ecommerce platform there – and a hosted platform, where all you do is login to the store’s cloud-based backend and the platform handles hosting and software upkeep. The latter is known as Software-as-a-Service, or SaaS.

e-commerce platform

This might be the biggest differentiating factor for all of the various types of ecommerce platforms on offer today. If you host the store yourself, you’ll have costs associated with hosting, and you’ll need to be sure your host has a high uptime rate, so you can be sure your website is always up and running. You’ll want to know what will happen to your sales emails if another website on the server gets backlisted. You’ll also want to know what kind of security measures they take to protect your website from hacks, and how frequently they save backups.

If you opt for a hosted platform, you’ll likely pay a monthly fee to the service to help them cover the hosting expense and product updates. Which leads us to the next point – the affordability of the pricing model.

Which Pricing Model Is More Affordable?

This primarily depends on your expected sales volume. Some platforms don’t charge a monthly rate but will instead charge a percentage of each transaction to cover their costs. You’ll have to run some calculations based on your projected average transaction figures and the average number of transactions you can expect to process, to help you determine which price model is the more affordable option for you.

e-commerce platform

Take for instance a comparison between the Basic Plans offered by BigCommerce and Shopify. BigCommerce is $29.95 a month and does not charge a transaction fee, but you’ll have to pay fees if you use PayPal as a payment processor – those fees go to PayPal, to the tune of 2.9% and 30 cents per transaction. Shopify on the other hand, charges $29/month, plus the same 2.9% and 30 cents per transaction you’d pay PayPal.

Yes, on the surface, this means that BigCommerce and Shopify have similar price tags to merchants. Ultimately, though, there are other costs involved, as each platform has different tools, functionalities and themes that come with basic accounts, while billing more monthly fees to access other features. With self-hosted platforms like Magento or WooCommerce, you’ll
pay less for the software license, but more for the hosting – and there are often “hidden” development costs, since installable packages generally don’t have the same self-service accessibility that SaaS solutions have.

Is It Easy to Use, and How Much Control Do You Have?

If the people who are responsible for managing your e-shop’s content, transactions and shipments cannot easily use the platform, you’ll lose money in lost productivity and potential errors. While you always have the option to train your staff on a new platform, it makes sense to use one that is intuitive and won’t require a lot of training. In this case, you can sign up for trials of your top two picks, then let the staff vote on which one is easier to use. Even if it’s the more expensive platform, the difference may pay for itself.

e-commerce platform

Just keep in mind that you’ll usually get the most control over design if you opt for a self-hosted platform, since you’ll have access to the source code. But that also means you have more responsibility to keep things up and running. And if something breaks, it’ll likely be on you to fix it.

If you don’t have a lot of experience designing for e-commerce, it may make more sense to have most of the design covered for you – but if you want to make sure your shop’s interface fits in visually with the rest of your branding, you may feel differently.

Is It SEO Friendly?

If you don’t have control over various SEO elements, like schema, xml sitemaps, page titles and meta descriptions, then you’ll have a harder time ranking the store in search engines, which is vital to your overall success.
Ads are expensive, organic social media doesn’t offer the customer acquisition impact that it once did, and while email marketing is huge, you won’t have much of a subscriber list of people don’t have an easy way to find your website.

e-commerce platform

You want to aim for as much organic traffic as you can, so optimizing your site for discoverability on Google matters. If a given platform strikes you as being not particularly SEO friendly, there’s really no point in investing in it, regardless of how great a platform seems to be otherwise.

Read Up and Run Experiments

Don’t expect to be able to do 15 minutes of research and emerge on the other side confident that you know which platform you want to use for the tech infrastructure of your online store. It’s not a decision to be taken lightly – it has the potential to have too much influence on your bottom line.

Take your time and do your homework when comparing platforms. Make a list of the platforms you’re considering and why, then compare them side by side to help you narrow it down to a couple you want to try. Only when you try the platforms hands-on will you be able to determine which is best for your business.

You probably heard someone talk about serverless technology around the office or at some conference conference your boss made you go and while understanding it’s merit as a technology doens’t come easy for a person without a technical background. With that said, I’d like to go over the biggest benefits of moving away from a traditional server and stepping into the cloud.

At its core, serverless is not the lack of servers but the existence of a server that does not need to be managed. Using microservices uploaded to Lambda that executes a little bit of code at a time and returning a value, you can build large-scale enterprise level application without having to see a single line of PHP. Now, this might not make everyone as happy as it does me but for a front-end developer like myself, that’s a godsend.

So why is this such a big deal?

It stands to reason that any new technology trying to challenge the old ways of creating, running and hosting web and mobile apps will have a tough time getting support, yet the serverless community has grown exponentially in the past year and the reasons behind the movement are clear.

  • Lower costs
  • Faster deployments
  • Graceful scaling

How does this affect me and my store?

Well, there are a number of major upgrades that a serverless approach can bring to your store. Let’s start with the obvious. The cut in costs. Using a serverless technology is cheaper than your traditional hosting and if you ever hosted a Magento store (or basically any other self-hosted solution) you’ll know just how expensive running, even a semi-successful store can be.

For AWS Lambda, the monthly compute price is $0.00001667 per GB-s and the free tier provides 400,000 GB-s. The monthly request price is $0.20 per 1 million requests and the free tier provides 1M requests per month.

There are more and more companies sharing their stories on how the cut costs using serverless and if you want to you can read about how companies save money with serverless.

The second reason why going serverless can be of significant value is the unparalleled scaling that can be achieved with serverless. If you do any online shopping around the holidays, especially during the “Black Friday” sales you probably saw your fair share of stores that were down, crumbling under the weight of countless users trying to browse, add to cart or compare products.

Creating microservices for all your websites functionality will improve your page load speed, remove scalability concerns and making changes to your code or business logic will be far easier to implement.

How would this even work?

So how exactly would you go about switching your store from a traditional server and going serverless?
To make things easier for everyone to understand I’ll won’t get too technical as doing so will turn this article into a 15K words software documentation, and let’s face it. I’m not smart enough to pull that sort of thing off. What I will do is break the store into small sections and explain how I would tackle the situation.

1. The CMS

I’m referring to the static pages like homepage, contact page, about us, etc. For this section use a caching system to create static pages from the CMS and have them served from a cloud service provider like AWS or Microsoft Azure. Most e-commerce content management systems (CMS) already come with a half decent caching solution so you might already be familiar with the concept.

Personally, I’d go with Amazon EslastiCache. It’s easy to install and deploy and won’t break the bank.

Amazon ElastiCache offers fully managed Redis and Memcached. Seamlessly deploy, operate, and scale popular open source compatible in-memory data stores. Build data-intensive apps or improve the performance of your existing apps by retrieving data from high throughput and low latency in-memory data stores.
— Amazon ElasiCache

To keep this article short and sweat I’ll link[http://blog.e-zest.com/how-to-implement-aws-elasticache-in-magento/] to a tutorial on how you can integrate ElastiCache with Magento(as this is one of those platforms that just won’t work without proper caching).

2. The catalog

The catalog is the part with all the categories and products and the main issue you have with them is the rendering speed. Having thousands of products with filters applied will slow your website to a halt. Now imagine having 10, 100 or 1000 concurrent users browsing, filtering and comparing products.

The solution? Microservices!

Here is where AWS Lambda shines brightest. Every interaction that the user can have with the website is split into small functions. So having 10 people on your site or 1000 won’t make a dent in the page load time as AWS will scale to best fit your needs.

But wait, there’s more!

The best part of this approach is the fact that you only pay what you use. That’s right. No more paying for big server bills when your store gets no visitors. Here’s a neat little AWS pricing calculator to help you figure out what to expect in terms of cost.

Static files, like images and videos, can be served from S3 or even better: CloudFront to reduce costs and increase speed.

3. The cart

This is probably the subject that most people that stayed this far along in the article are interested in. Carts are extremely complicated and cumbersome systems that will eat that CPU as if it were made out of tacos. The problem with conventional stores is MySQL bottlenecks and when that happens you entire website stops responding until MySQL catches up(either that or the entire thing just goes down).

The fix is not that complicated. Stop using MySQL! Since you are already using AWS Lambda why not use DynamoDB, it’s easy to setup, cheap and reliable and before you start calling me a sellout for pushing AWS on you all, MongoDB is another solid option, in fact, I kind of prefer it to DynamoDB as I’m more used to using it. Here’s a quick guide on how to get started with Lambda and MongoDB.
Besides moving away from using MySQL, I’d urge anyone that gets a lot of orders to consider using an API like Magento’s API to handle orders. At the moment, having an expensive server with all the bells and whistle can withstand 3 to 5 orders/second which as it turns out, it’s still less than stores like Angry Birds store or Anki.com need.

The way it would work is as simple as it is efficient. You handle the order queue via a javascript based checkout system that interacts with the store API validating and recording each order. Here’s a tutorial on how to do this in Magento: https://devdocs.magento.com/guides/v2.1/get-started/order-tutorial/order-intro.html

Online store will need to evolve

So what’s the problem?

Why isn’t anyone and everyone using this solution yet? There are a lot of people that already use this solution and it saves both time and a lot of money. So why are there still people not using this? One reason might be the fact that serverless is still a new technology. Not everyone feels comfortable with it yet and because it’s so new the tools needed for development are not popular enough. Take for example AWS Lambda debugging. It’s a basic need for every developer and yet Amazon doesn’t have a tool that provides all the support needed for development. So we end up looking for tools Like Thundra.io and Dashbird.io(amongst others).

In conclusion

Moving from a traditional self-hosted solution to the cloud will be a complex problem for store owners but at one point or another, they will find themselves having to face difficult decisions vis-a-vis their platform and scaling capabilities and going serverless can solve many problems.

I’m anxious to see what’s to come in the e-commerce space. Perhaps we’ll see our first in-the-cloud e-commerce solution. The sky’s the limit! (get it? cloud computing – sky? ok, I’ll stop).

The power of call-to-action buttons shouldn’t be underestimated. This is probably one of the most effective conversion-generating elements on your site. Although it may not seem to be as informative as the main body of your page/article/headline, but is probably the last chance to motivate your visitors to take an action as they scan through your content. So, what are the secrets of the proper use of CTA buttons on your site or blog? How to make them bring you the desired results? Let’s find it out.

CTA buttons play a huge role in your online marketing efforts. In the contemporary highly competitive world, it’s not enough to create “good” content only. Every piece of information that you share on your blog or site should be compelling and appealing to your audience so that it triggers their emotions and motivates for an action. Text links within your copy can also help you encourage the readers to click. Still, call-to-action buttons are considered as the most effective clickable element of your site, which can also boost your conversion rates.

A good call to action is the one that encourages people to click. If it neither catches the eye nor triggers any emotions, then there is no point to keep it on the page. Believe it or not, but with some simple tweaks can turn a CTA button into a powerful lead generating engine that can grow your site’s conversions to a great degree. Before we dig deeper in investigating the major secrets of clickable call-to-action buttons, let’s cast a glance at the basic tips to consider.

Must-follow tips:

  • Any CTA button that you add to your website should complement with its overall design and look contrasting to its background.
  • The button should look natural within interface. The key factors that influence the way you need to present it on your web project are the industry to which you are related, your audience, the type of content/products you represent, etc.

CTA buttons come in different shapes, colors, sizes. They also feature different texts and positioning. Which choices are the most effective for your web project? Which ones will bring the desired conversions? Let’s now uncover the major principles of clickable call-to-action buttons.

Wording for CTA Buttons

When it comes to CTAs, texts are far more important than their graphical presentation. Call-to-action buttons should clearly communicate what action a person will make with a click. A word or a phrase that you write on it should trigger clicks and sales, as well as communicate the benefit. So, what are the right words to add to CTA buttons?

      • To make people curious about what you are saying, you can enhance a CTA button with “See …” phrase.
      • Those users who are thirsty for knowledge will find phrases starting with “Read …” appealing.

Keep the copy short and easy to understand for a wide audience. You can also make call-to-action buttons more actionable while adding “Now” to the text. Moreover, you can enhance the buttons with widely-recognizable signs like arrows pointing at the button and images/cartoons/animations staring at it.

A message containing a CTA button converts 2.5 times better than the one featuring pure texts. The stats is taken from a study conducted by Adroll on Facebook back in 2014. Still, different buttons target different audiences. For example, a “Book Now” is more likely to convert better on travel sites, “Learn More” is for education resources, “Download” is for marketing experts interested in getting a new e-book, etc.

In order to make your business a success, you need to guide people to the places where they are expected to take an action. Before we move to specific practical tips, let’s consider the key ways how to “prepare” the audience for conversion.

  • Resonate with the needs of your audience.
  • Show a reason to take the next step.
  • Communicate every statement clearly.
  • Ask to click and explain what the reader will get after hitting a call to action button.

What Color to Use

Words and size of call-to-action buttons are not the only factors letting you communicate with your audience. Colors into which CTAs are painted play a predefining role as well. There is no one specific color that will appeal to different audiences in a similar manner. When thinking about the color choice, remember about the people whom you target. Are those males or females? Do you target youngsters or adults? Based on the way you answer these question, you can decide upon the most appropriate colors for CTAs. For example, call-to-action buttons painted in warm colors (like red and orange) will be more appealing to women. Men, in their turn, give preference to cool colors, like green and blue.

You shouldn’t forget about your business niche as well. If you work in the food-related industry, then combinations of red, yellow and greed colors will have an appetizing effect on your visitors. A general rule that you need to consider is making a CTA button contrasting to the content and backgrounds surrounding it.

Call-to-Action Button Placement

This is one of the most important factors that one needs to consider. Is one button per page enough? Maybe you should put more than two CTAs on one page? What is the optimal placement of a call to action button on the page? Well, there is no one fit it all rule. In order to find the best and the most effective placement of the button on your site, you need to run A/B testing to find out what solution fits your project the best.

One of the most popular recommendations provided by online marketers is that you need to include at least 2 call-to-action buttons to the text of your offer – 1 in the beginning after the introduction, and another one in the end. Thus, you can welcome people to learn more about the things that you are talking about as they land on the page and motivate them for a purchase after they have looked though the entire publication.

When placing a button above or below the fold, you need to make it accessible to a person when they are ready to buy. Thus, you can choose from the following options:
Place CTAs in navigation.

Put it at the bottom of the page for those people who will scroll the text to its end.

After ad copy for motivated users who will have a desire to buy after they read an advertisement. Here is a good example from TemplateMonster’s team.

cta copy
On any other page of your site, which is frequently visited by your audience (like reviews, privacy policy, features, about story, etc.).

Use the Power of Animation

What we are talking about at this point is a hover effect, which can change the button’s color on the mouse-over. By changing its physical appearance, the call-to-action buttons looks far more captivating. A changing color keeps the users alerted that it is ready to be used. From the physiological point of view, a blinking button plays with a user’s mind and motivates them for an action.

Conclusion

Wrapping it up, we should say that only A/B testing will show what color, size, texts or whatsoever work better on your site. A call to action button is an integral part of your online marketing campaign. It should correspond to your own corporate style and stand out from the rest of the content provided on the page. A CTA button is like a final step that leads people towards conversion after they have learned the necessary details about your product/service. The position of CTAs on your site should stand out with its clarity and visibility. Simple, short urgent phrases will keep the audience alerted and motivated for an action.

We hope that you find the aforementioned tips and examples useful, and they will help you attain the desired conversion boost on your website.

Good luck!

What You Need to Know Before Building Your Small Business Website

Having a website for your small business is essential. However, keep in mind that “Bad sites – ones full of mistakes – are almost as damaging as having no site whatsoever.”

There are number of errors you can fall into when crafting your website. You could have a terrible design or overload your site with text. Or you could have poor CTA’s and keyword targeting, thereby failing to convert visitors.

Because of the many details you need to consider, as well as the potential pitfalls, creating your business’s website can be overwhelming. You have a lot to consider, from how you want to advertise your business to how much and what kind of content you want to publish.

The first decision you need to make is whether or not you want to design your site yourself or hire someone else. Your answer to this question will narrow down how you should proceed. So which option should you choose?

Make Sure That Saving Money Is Worth It

One of the biggest influences on your decision will likely be cost. The expense of building your own website is going to be rather high when it comes to the number of zeros on the bill. There is no question that you will get what you pay for, but what you pay for also depends on precisely what you want from your website. There is no such thing as “one size fits all.”

Perhaps you want to establish a website that is more on the complex side. Maybe you’re looking for page after page of displayable content, each with its own child pages that branch out and interact with other pages on your site.

In this case, you will probably want to contract outside help to keep your project from getting too crazy. It’s easy to start out with a simple task only to discover that it is a lot more involved than you originally thought.

For example, suppose that you have a few products that you’ve already built out. Let’s say that one of them is an eBook for marketing automation. It is filled with gated content for email opt-ins that will bring consumers through the conversion funnel.

However, because you have to widen your funnel on the front end, you will need a substantial and robust blog. Your blog will need enticing and interactive graphics. You might need polls, a Disqus plugin, and a standout share bar, as well as CTAs splashed throughout each of your blog posts.

While you might know how to market your product, you could lack experience in developing a robust and beautiful blog. And building your blog is key to your success, so you will need a team that has had previous experience with gated content projects. In this situation it is far better to hire outside help than to handle everything on your own.

When You’ll Want to Do It Yourself

On the other hand, you might want a simple and straightforward website with minimal fluff and pizzazz. In this case, it could benefit you to look into what it takes to construct your own website. If building your own site is the best option for you, doing so will save you time and money in the long run.

What’s more, crafting your own small website from scratch can give you the skills to eventually be able to create one that is bigger and more cutting-edge. Start small on your own, and keep building on your knowledge.

The truth is, web design is not that hard to learn. There are many courses out there, as well as shared knowledge online. What might be most helpful is a course on web design and creation that trains you in the Java language.

Java is one of the many languages that computer software understands, and it is also one of the most popular. C++ is another well-known coding language with which you might be familiar.

Once you are immersed in the lingo of computer and web-based commands, the overall concepts will click. Then you will be able to leap back and forth between different computer-based languages.

Taking courses in web design will not merely allow you to overcome obstacles that will certainly come your way. The courses will also give you ideas for your website that you would otherwise not have considered. Educating yourself in this way can be a great strategy for setting yourself up for success as you build your site.

Remember, Creating and Maintaining Websites Takes Time

If you do decide to take the leap and construct your website on your own, then you should know that it will take time. Rome was not built in a day, and your website will not be either.

Building an entire website from scratch is tough, but worth it in the end. If you take the proper first steps, such as receiving a Java certification and training, you will streamline the time you spend working on your site.

No Matter What, Have a Plan for Debugging Your Site

Whether or not you decide to build your website by yourself or with an experienced web designer, you need to think of your site as a living thing that, much like you, can get sick.

“Getting sick” takes the form of overloading and crashing. Sometimes websites garner too much traffic for the server to support, and all that stress can cause the server to overload and crash. Other times, your coding (or your designer’s coding) might have a lapse that causes the site to crash.

When these events happen—and they do more often than you think—you should have a solution that will enable you to get your site debugged. If you hired a firm, chances are they will jump on the problem immediately and take care of the issue for you. But if you built the site yourself, you should know what to do when it gets buggy.

There Is Pride in Creating Something Amazing from Scratch

There are website building platforms out there that allow you to get a free site simply by clicking a few times. But those platforms (such as WordPress or Wix) tend to be very limited in terms of what they permit you to do.

That is why having the ability to construct your very own site is such a great skill to have under your belt. You can fix any issues you might encounter on your own. You will save a ton of money in the long run, and you will also have the pride of crafting something amazing with your own two hands.
